CTET stands for Central Teacher Eligibility Test. It is a national-level exam conducted in India by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The CTET is a mandatory qualification for candidates aspiring to become teachers in government or private schools for classes I to VIII.

  • Purpose: To assess the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions at primary and upper primary levels.
  • Conducting Body: CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education).
  • Frequency: Conducted twice a year (typically in July and December).

CTET Structure and Levels

The CTET exam consists of two papers:

Paper I (For Primary Stage)

CTET Eligibility Criteria

For Primary Teachers (Class I to V)

  • Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
    OR
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

For Upper Primary Teachers (Class VI to VIII)

  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a Bachelor’s in Education (B.Ed).
    OR
  • Graduation with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

CTET Application Process

  1. Online Registration: Candidates must apply online through the official CTET website (https://ctet.nic.in).
  2. Application Fee:
    • General/OBC:
      • Single Paper: ₹1,000
      • Both Papers: ₹1,200
    • SC/ST/Differently Abled:
      • Single Paper: ₹500
      • Both Papers: ₹600
  3. Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of your photograph and signature.

CTET Exam Features

  1. Exam Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT).
  2. Languages: Available in 20 languages, including Hindi, English, Urdu, and more.
  3. Qualifying Marks:
    • General: 60% or above
    • SC/ST/OBC/Other Categories: 55% or as per state policy

CTET Certificate Validity

  • Validity: The CTET certificate is valid for a lifetime.
  • Scope: Eligible for teaching positions in Central Government Schools (e.g., Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas), State Government Schools, and Private Schools.
